Catwoman and Halle Berry

The joys of drawing, my way.

Hey, who hasn’t heard of Catwoman? That’s right, the female villain in the Batman movie. She had her own spinoff in Hollywood with a variety of movies dedicated to her. Don’t even try my on how many, you remember, I draw cartoons and don’t review movies a lot. I know a bit about it, but I prefer to draw and not to research.

So here we have this challenge online on one of those sites. Catwoman is the theme of that week. That can’t be to hard. Then again, I’m not a big fan of drawing cats. I do what I do in situations like this, I ask Google. Nice product placement here. I look through a few pictures to gauge a perspective of the task ahead. There I find a Halle Berry in the Catwoman outfit and I got my picture.

It doesn’t take me long to sketch something basic up. My favourite part of any work is the sketching. This is where all the wild imagination takes place. My pencil does the work. it guides me through the page. The eraser brings me back in line when I go over board. Usually with a couple of lines I know where it’s going to take me.

After the initial few lines I find my rhythm and motor through. I work on an iPad Pro these days for the inking and colouring. A quick photo and import this into Procreate and a few modifications later I’m into the inking stage of the drawing. I enjoy this process a lot too. It gives me the freedom to move things into different directions and make alterations on the fly.

After that the boring part starts. Colouring. Thats the part I like the least. I think it’s the least creative part. Of course I know you can add depth, lights and shadows. I think it’s important but I don’t fancy it too much.

After that, the drawing is done I often forget to show people. I haven’t shown you heaps of cartoons I drew last year. I show them to people straight away. Otherwise they end up in a file somewhere and get forgotten. Like this one. On to the next one.
