Qatar 2016 MotoGP race won by Lorenzo

The Qatar race is the first one in the 2016 MotoGP season. Jorge Lorenzo won. Do you want to know more? Oh, sorry, it wasn’t the most exiting race at all. But I guide you through if you like.

The race in Qatar is held at night in the dessert when temperatures are a bit cooler. I think it also has something to do with the television broadcast rights. Races abroad are always out of sync with the European audiences. Dorna, the Spanish owners of MotoGP, earn a lot of money through those tv rights. But that would be another story. We here in Australia had to get up at 4:30am to watch the race life. With tiny little eyes I got up and did just that.

Lorenzo led the race in the first lap, but the two Ducati riders Iannone and Dovizioso zipped past the Spaniard as if he’s standing still. Those machines have some grunt. The Qatar race track was under flood lights. It’s beautiful to watch the bikes in that situation.

Not much happened for a while until Lorenzo started to attack the Ducatis. Ian none is a demon on the brakes. They went tit for tat for a while. Then Iannone binned it. He wasn’t happy. But it was his own fault. He crashed out of second place. The race then settled down until the last couple of laps when Marquez started to overtake Dovizoso. However he couldn’t make it stick. Marc had to settle for third and behind him Rossi finished fourth. They are all a bit upbeat. The Qatar round is the first one of many this season. So none of them are in any position to claim the title yet. My guess is that Lorenzo will have his fingers on it. We’ll see if Rossi and Marquez can mount a challenge of if they squandle amongst each other. Who knows?

I will report back with another cartoon after the next race.
