David Bowie died at the age of 69

David Bowie has passed away after a battle with cancer. It’s sad to hear that he has been taken from us way too soon. David Bowie had a fantastic career in music and film. He was a trendsetter in so many ways, not just music, but also fashion and trends.

In his early days he struggled with his identity. He was determined to do it his way and not fall into the trap of commercialism. He always had the drive to be David Bowie. He became a star and a legend. He’s been in the business for 40 odd years and sold over $100 million worth of records. I suppose that is vinyl, cassette, CD and digital these days. That’s pretty good. He also collaborated with various artists. Queen is one of them.

Look, personally I have never been a big David Bowie fan. I first heard about him after reading the book “Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo” and the subsequent movie “Christiane F. Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo“. His song “We can be Heroes” was part of the soundtrack. The movie plays in Berlin. You better polish up on your German if you like to watch it. But other than that he never really registered on my radar too much. Yes, he was popular and a trendsetter. I just didn’t listen to him too much. I never even bought an album from him. Ah well, you can’t follow everyone.

But I thought about creating a little cartoon about him. I imagined him being a star. His alter ego Ziggy Stardust let me to this cartoon. I could have used the line from the ‘Major Tom’ song, but I noticed in the last minute that it has already been taken. Sometimes it helps to do a little bit of research before starting a cartoon.
