INKtober part one, the first five inklings

What is the INKtober? Every October many artists around the world participate in a challenge to ink a drawing, cartoon etc per day. That isn’t possible for every one, so you can do one a week or every third day. I have chosen to do one a day for the duration of the month of October. I don’t see it as such a huge challenge, I draw everyday and doodle even more. So the INKtober seems to me a bit of fun. This is part one and with that I have the first five inklings. I just call them like that. Inklings, it has a bit of a ring to it, hasn’t it?

The first one was done more by accident as on the first of October I knew nothing about INKtober, I just happen to add a sketch of mine that day. I only found out about it the next day. So I just went back and added the hashtag #inktober to it. I’m in the game. So this first inkling was about that weekends AFL grand final. I don’t follow that sport. But it seemed like a fun idea to draw something about it and since the team mascots were the Hawks and the Eagles, I thought it would be a good idea to get them into a fight. My first entry was done by accident.

The second one was not entirely created on the day. I had this one sketched up a long time ago and never inked it. This was a good opportunity to finish it off. So I sat down and inked my second inkling. It’s a bit of a cheeky one. But I do like these sort of things. It also challenges me to not only draw figures with huge noses and google eyes.

The third one came completely from scratch. I grabbed a bunch of papers and started to draw. This is something I do most mornings. It’s a warm up procedure to get my fingers moving. It’s not the only one. I do write a diary every morning, that is a pretty good warm up.

In the fourth one you see more how I draw. I’m relatively low tech. I work on my table and am surrounded by my pens. The pens are about the most organised thing on that table, the rest isn’t. Apart from the sketch books. If I’d have all the drawings on loose papers, I’d never find them again. The sketch books keep things together. Sometimes I have a dedicated sketch book for a specific theme. That way I find the stuff quicker if needed. I quite often take one with me and sketch along on my travels. With this little inkling I accidentally coloured it in. I was in the flow of my work and before I knew it it was done. It was only a matter of an extra few minutes.

Now, with the fifth one I started with a circle, then another one as if I was to draw some eyes. The didn’t turn out to be eyes, but boobs. I didn’t plan this one like that. Sometimes you have to let the drawing guide you where it wants to go. This is the result.

I hope you like this section. There are a few more to come and I’ll be back in five days with another bunch of updates.
