Valentino Rossi wins at 37

Valentino Rossi sento to Jerez in Spain and won the MotoGP race. He made it look easy. Good on him. He is now 37 and at that age most professional racers would have retired. Retiring? Rossi? Not in a pink fit! He just signed another couple of years with Yamaha. That’s good, at least for the sport. Can he win a championship? Well, that we don’t know yet. There is a pretty good chance he will. He was pretty close last season. We can tell if Valentino won a tenth championship.

I was asked to draw something about Valentino winning again. To draw cartoons about Valentino Rossi is always connected with a bit of controversy. I don’t mind, but there are fans out there who pull things apart and react in disgust. I draw cartoons, that’s what I do. I like Valentino. I’ve met him and we had a chat. He’s a terrific bloke. He’s great for the sport, but am I a fan? Probably not. I have the upmost respect for any of the MotoGP racers and I try to draw them in a neutral way, sometimes a bit controversial. That doesn’t mean I hate any of them. It’s just the way I see things.

With drawing Valentino Rossi as an old man and him requesting to be helped off the Yamaha is just the way I see an older competitor reacting after a race. He is the old dog. He can see a joke and he will certainly play along and pull a leg. I doff my hat to someone who can still race at the top level of any sport. In that regard I hope he can win another championship. Let’s see if he does it this year.

I apologise for the delay in giving you this cartoon. It was out of my control. Rest assured, the next MotoGP cartoon is coming soon. Watch this space
