Hans has his head stuck in a rain cloud

Many people deal with issues differently. Sticking your head in a rain cloud isn’t the answer. In this case I can tell you a story about Hans. I have known Hans for a while now and he deals with his demons differently than others. Whereas I talk to mates, Hans is grumbling to himself. It might be a cultural thing. Hans is from the former East German block of Berlin. It was a tough place to be.

You could never know who to talk to, everyone is a spy. I got told that everyone is on the lookout for everybody and everything. The Gestapo had ears in every place. so I guess this is why Hans seldom talks to others about issues he has. The problem doesn’t need to be big. The other day the ink ran out of his fountain pen and he was unable to find a refill. Before long he was in his rain cloud and uncontactable. Seriously, I wish he had a beard. He mumbles a lot when he is in his cloud.

He thinks that no one can see his rain cloud when something bothers him. Well that isn’t entirely true. A lot of people can’t, but I can see through. I learnt to see little differences in their facial expression or the way they walk. I go up to Hans and ask: “Hey Hans, how are you going?” I get a short reply. “Fine, thanks”. But if it sounds like it comes from across the valley, it usually isn’t fine.

That’s when most people walk on and leave Hans alone. “He said he is fine…” That’s where they are wrong.

But I knew Hans needed a break and so I won’t on and got a coffee. I walked past his cubicle and put the coffee on his table. There was no need to say a word. He didn’t either. I think I did a great job. Proud as punch I return to my desk and continue my job.

It wasn’t until later in the day when I heard someone enter my cubicle. I was still deep in though and didn’t look up straight away. A coffee cup was placed next to the keyboard. I look up and there is Hans. He brought a coffee over to me. “How nice is that?” I thought. And before I could say something, Hans said: “I hate coffee!”

“…”

The moral of the story is not to worry about everyones problem. It’s nice to ask what’s wrong and if that person doesn’t want to tell you, they just don’t want to. Especially since it is as simple as a dry fountain pen. there is no reason to break your head open over something like that. Also. Not every one likes Coffee.

Then there are times when people need to be in a rain cloud. The rain cloud can clear your head. Be a grumpy bum and stick your head into a big, thundery rain cloud. It will do you good and clear your head.

The end.
