Dramatic MotoGP race at Phillip Island

Could you have asked for a better MotoGP race than the one at Phillip Island the last weekend? The answer is simple. No! This was an absolute corker. and this MotoGP race will go down in the history books as one of the greatest. Lets start where all races start, at the start.

The MotoGP circus came to Australia, to the picturesque Phillip Island race track. We had Marc Marquez on pole with Andrea Iannone in second and rounding out the front row was Jorge Lorenzo. Lorenzo wasn’t happy with Iannone during the practice and qualifying. Andrea was following Jorge and the Spaniard didn’t like that. But once the race was under way, thing seemed to settle after a few laps, or so we thought. How wrong were we all. Valentino Rossi qualified in the second row. He was out there to settle the championship.

Now there is not much use for me to try to work out who was where and when. Lorenzo wanted to check out early and it first looked like he did. bur Iannone didn’t read the script. Nor were Marquez and Rossi. Rossi and Loernzo are fighting for the MotoGP championship so there is a lot at stake. One fall and it’s all over.

Iannone overtook Rossi, then Lorenzo, then got relegated back to fourth behind Marquez. Mark came to the front and Lorenzo found himself in fourth. He fought back and got back in the lead. Towards the end of the race everyone thought that Lorenzo has it in the bag. With two seconds to make up Marquez managed the impossible and hunted Lorenzo down with half a lap to go and to win the Australian MotoGP.

Phillip Island delivered an unbelievable MotoGP race. A race many of us will talk for years to come. If you haven’t seen it, search for it and watch it yourself. You’ll be amazed by the skills these riders display without falling off.
