Cinema, the way I look at it.

What is it with this cinema thing? It certainly has changed over the years. When I was a wee lad, cinema was different. We used to go out to the flics, to the movies, even to the drive ins. It has all changed. People don’t do this that much anymore.

My name is Orisis. I’m a galah. I have seen a lot in my 38 years. You see, I used to life in a cage with my owner. Anthony was his name. He is now where the big birds fly. Ah, I miss him. We had great times. Twice a week we watched a movie in the theatre, the cinema as it is widely know. Every Tuesday and Friday. Anthony loved the movies.

Since I’m not great a flying he kept taking me with him. I sat on his shoulder and we walked to the cinema. Other people loved us. I got biscuits given all the time. It was great. I watched the greats of the cinema. The silver screen they called it. But even back then there was a change in the air. Television was in almost every home. It looked convenient I must say. We never had one. I could see the blue glimmer of the television from my cage all around the neighbourhood. And with the new thing called VHS, it was the end for many cinemas. Even our local one closed down due to the low attendance. I remember it clear as day when Anthony and I went to the last session. We were the only ones in the theatre. After us they closed and now there is a supermarket.

Not long after that Anthony stopped feeding me. I knew he went to the big birds in the sky. Just as well I knew how to open my cage. I left.

It was very sad. I liked Anthony. For may years I didn’t go to any cinema. I wandered around the town and watched movies through the windows. It wasn’t the same. People kept getting up and come back with coffee and snacks. But thats beside the point. I noticed a difference in the people over the past few years. They have those phones. Everyone has at least one. They used to holed it against their ear and talk loudly everywhere they went. It was quite amusing.

But then things changed.

It’s called Immersive New Active Cinema Technology with Interactive Video Environment, or INACTIVE. Stupid name. But I’m not to judge here. People started to wear their phones as some sort of headgear. I hear them talking something about a real life movie that lets you interact with your environment. The strange thing is, life is just that. But now they added a new element to it. People all over the place wear this new stuff and they keep bumping into things. Personally, I think it’s the best thing since complementary biscuits. I sit on a street sign for the best part of the day and watch the proceedings. It’s fascinating.

One day I almost got knocked off my perch when one of those phone wearing robots walked into the post. You should have heard the the words that this guy said. There is no way I can’t repeat them. I hope they keep doing this for a long time. I never felt so entertained since the glory days of cinema.

The end
