20 years of Valentino Rossi on the world stage of Motorcycle racing

It’s been 20 years since Valentino Rossi entered the world stage in Motorcycle racing. That is a long time at the top class and one of the most dangerous sports in the world. He has won 9 World championships in various classes. 20 years ago he was racing for a 125cc Aprilia two stroke. He moved through the ranks, winning championships along the way and ended up in the premier class. Back then they were still two stroke monsters. In the 2000’s they changed to four stroke machines. Rossi won there as well. He is a remarkable sportsman. He has done a lot for the sport in the 20 years since he has joined.

So, 20 years after Rossi entered the world stage they are racing in Argentina. It was an interesting race. The grip was rubbish and the tyres were not up to it’s task. That meant the race control had to put on an emergency tyre and a compulsory pitstop. If you need to read an official report about what exactly happened, you are best to go to the official MotoGP page. My reporting isn’t the most accurate. I draw cartoons. Anyway. At the later stage in the race we had a Marquez at the front, followed by the two factory Ducatis and then Rossi. With a few hundred metres to go the Ducati team mates got tangled up with each other. Iannone took Dovizioso out.

I first had the Rossi cartoon for AMCN but it was a bit controversial. I drew quickly this one:

92 Ducatis crash c s

This was apparently much better. The celebrations were cut short. I had the feeling you could hear their heads exploding. Rule number one hen you’re racoon: beat team mate. Rule number two: never take out your team mate! It was a great race and very unfortunate for Ducati. Will they do better at the next round in Texas? Only time will tell.
